a half of the hostages have managed to escape at this point the hostage takers are demanding an end to the french led combat action against insurgents in neighboring mali meanwhile the operation in the west african state has intensified french troops are now on the ground to back up a heavy air campaign against al qaeda linked groups the. he's also received the gist the core support from its nato allies or the e.u. prepares to send hundreds of its military personnel to train them early and a u.k. based political analyst dan glazebrook joins us now to tell us more about the whole prospects of the mission and more talk about the rising threat of retaliation strikes as well a pleasure to see you thanks for coming on it has been now less than a week since france intervened in mali there already we are seeing retaliate attacks in the form of hostages being taken off france in the country supporting this campaign sufficiently prepared do you think to deal with the fallout well i think they know that this is going to be
8:03 am
a long drawn out war i mean the first thing i was reminded of when i. saying all of this would just be a few weeks remind me of nothing more than defense secretary the british defense secretary john reid who when and how month five or six years ago. did you know probably within an hour very quickly and probably without even a bullet being fired thousands and thousands of years later. even the british army running out of nearly running out of bullets at one point in helmand due to the mass slaughter that it was initiating there we saw that that was a crock of lies and i think what hollande is saying is the same this is a ground invasion of africa and they're hoping france britain and the us are hoping to establish permanent military presence and occupation of africa and this is this is one way they're going to be able to do it it's not going to be a short story if you say if you say they're trying to get some sort of permanent occupation of this part of africa why what's their point what's their motivations
8:04 am
are. well there's a number of things i think we have to analyze this from a number of different angles the first thing to be always borne in mind analyzing any western intervention in the third world that isn't in africa latin america or asia is that the riches and of the western world particularly us france and britain dependent have always depended on maintaining the third world and particularly africa in a position of permanent poverty and under-development because there's only this poverty and under-development allows the west to extract with cheap labor and cheap resources that it does that's the basis of his wealth so that's the first point and in that context the african union is a particular importance for the west to to keep the african union from developing into a genuine independent force for regional integration and they're trying to subordinate it militarily under a western chain of command to turn it into a proxy force for continued subordination of the african continent and mali is
8:05 am
playing a role in this so so something so is there all the while that all the while whether it comes to the west's a war on terror whether it goes into iraq for the whole nine eleven fiasco or goes into afghanistan without seeing what you're suggesting possibly a smokescreen for another form of occupation in africa under the guise perhaps of terrorism and terrorists that when it comes to the retaliation attacks in the form of hostages being taken we have reports now that at least twenty five foreign hostages have been freed including two japanese we're still working to confirm this from an algerian security source but you know that the fighting there will mean an inflow of weapons into west africa what spillover do you think that could have in the future here well again spillover is part of the part of the program part the aim as well of the strategy of intervention in mali you see what happened since the execution of gadhafi and the destruction of libya is that the west and funded may quit. the these death squads effectively in libya. flow of weapons and
8:06 am
fighters bred them across the region which was again playing into. the program of the west to destabilize the region and they ended up in northern mali the hope was that after libya algeria would fall and this destabilization would spread to algeria and this hasn't happened the rebels have made their base in northern mali and now what we're seeing in recent weeks is that the insurgency is starting to spread south into southern mali so france and britain i'm thinking no no no this is not the idea at all so now they're bombing mali to try and bomb the rebels back into algeria to have them back north into algerian we could see this it's very interesting as you say regarding algeria because when it comes to the hostages being taken this happened in algeria extremely close to the border with libya and here we are dealing with an issue in mali and the hostage takers saying this the these hostages are being taken in response to what france is doing in mali and it
8:07 am
happened just across the border from libya what what what how does that how does that really how do you read into that well jiri has been has been a dead against any kind of military intervention in mali since that was first kind of mooted several months ago u.s. secretary of state hillary clinton was there desperate to try and get out urea to intervene in mali as a way of sucking out the resources of mali destabilizing of algeria story do stabilizing and you remember algeria's the last independent state that still has a basis on the anti colonial movements that kicked out the french in the sixty's in the region now after the fall of libya so the vesper also for the huge oil and gas deposits around here either dwarf those in libya even and they were hoping to get algeria sucked into the mali. work hoping now still that they can do that under the spillover but the border with between and you're a money issue two thousand kilometers an hour and you very worried about it spilling over i've heard that they've sent thirty five thousand soldiers to. the.
8:08 am
to the order i'm not trying to build an electric fence to prevent spillover book of course that leaves them with missing soldiers so that more clues the other borders vulnerable so they're hoping to suck out the resources of the military resources and we can by forcing it to all these measures on all of its borders someone you see there actually there are just there's just so many levels to this story on going here whether it's algeria or mali or even libya being involved as well also in the defection of these troops they were originally trained by americans now in these these militants now in possession of nearly one hundred u.s. armored vehicles night vision goggles a laser trained rifles as well it's just astonishing i wish we had more time for this we really don't tell you based political analyst a pleasure to have you want to today thank you. well you can always check out a many more opinions and analysis on the reasons and possible repercussions of the war and molly dot com one of the experts we've been talking to believes that france

is revealing an imperial approach to the region and that the african state will suffer the consequences we can always let us know what you think on this and all the other stories we've got that as well just leave your feedback in the comments section of our website our talk. for now though pakistan's government has reportedly agreed to the demands of a firebrand cleric in return for ending a mass sit in of tens of thousands of his supporters around parliament a team of officials are understood to be holding talks with dr. who's calling on the government to resign earlier the government with an ultimatum to start negotiating with him threatening further action the political chaos in the country has also deepened after the government clashed with a top court is ordered to arrest the prime minister over a corruption case was refused officials accused the judiciary and the military of a conspiracy and we have spoken exclusively to the protest leader who told us what

whole muslim world. and alternative world and developing muslim countries have to get to the end of corruption and corrupt leaders. get some details on the on the stand off on going between the government and protesters with a document correctly or the president of the pac nationalists forum lobbying group are joining us live here in artsy thanks for coming on pleasure to have you want to day you are there in the capital you've heard the story ongoing here what's the what's the mood like there now. well we're the momentum still gathering and i think the the demonstrations the demonstrators right now have succeeded in sending out the message for change in pakistan what we are basically seeing is that the democratic system of the country is in the throes of the final stages of collapse collapse under it under the weight of its own corruption collapse under the weight of its own incompetence so it's
8:12 am
a major development it's important to remember that these demonstrations may not lead immediately to change or he made it collapse the fall of the government itself but the process has started and this is a sort of jump in but you know actually you're actually telling me because you're there in the capital are you are saying that the government is on the verge of collapse as we speak. it's not just the government it's it's the very system on which this government stands the the elections that brought this government to power five years ago the whole democratic set of that was supposed to. go to elections in another three four months and then produce another elected government this whole system is really right now teetering on the verge of collapse and again as i said the demonstrations that you're seeing right now in islamabad may not immediately lead to that but the process has started so you know
8:13 am
we talk about a fellow who's essentially this muslim cleric who's leading the movement here he spent seven years in canada from what i understand raising funds there how has he suddenly come to the top in pakistan i know he's been he's been promising a lot of big initiatives for a big massive change in the country and he's got tens of thousands of people supporting him and he's threatening some sort of revolution if the government does step down just who is this. well he's a canadian citizen of course of pakistani descent but the point is that the only reason he gets to get this kind of support is that the pakistani population is really frustrated with the system and i must remind you just very quickly that five years ago the current government that we have in pakistan was brokered by the former military dictator with the help of the u.s. government and the british government it was a very direct affair and very senior diplomats from those two governments and from
8:14 am
the government representing pakistan sat down together and sort of drew the shape and form the next government to come in islam by the government that was supposed to protect the american interest in the region the war in afghanistan so it was supposed to really basically serve the interests that are very important to governments such as the united states and the united kingdom and for the past five years we've seen forces in the country that are that are pro pakistan what i would call the nationalist forces in pakistan trying to time and again highlight the fact that this government has been serving interests other than the interests of the country itself and the interests of the people of the country and of government government is not. listening at all in fact been saying over the whole the government of a whole some sort of health care as well. as qadri yes what if.
8:15 am
you've got a bit of a time delay here i do apologize i want to just ask you that we're looking at the pictures where we've been talking here when showing pictures and showing a lot of women at the protests of many young people as well why does this have so much sway over the youth do you think in such a broad spectrum. well well he is a learned cleric so he did have a beautiful following a good following but as i said this thing increased tremendously when he began talking about changing the failed democratic system in that country it's a failed democratic system it's a small clique of elite politicians who are intermarried interrelated to each other through family marriages and so forth and they're divided in the using different parties to sort of divide the cake and of course indulge in massive corruption i think in the in the seventy year history of modern pakistan we've seen the most corrupt government ever in this short history of fars so all of this really came
8:16 am
together to sort of increase the following of this cleric so a lot of the pictures that you're seeing a lot of the footage is seeing these are people who are who may or may not be supporters of the cleric and self but they're definitely supporters of changing this democratic system that has failed the country tremendously and clearly. the president of the pac national group i live in islamabad many thanks for coming on. well as he is coming to you live from moscow and a temporary gain for now could lead to a long lasting financial disaster. looming. criticizing japan for its drive towards the devaluation of the. tokyo. so that's just ahead also. on. west bank settlement israel looks to keep up the pace two hundred more homes are to be built in occupied. palestine statehood

thanks for joining us here on britain's prime minister is using his nation's membership of the e.u. as bait as he looks to concessions out of brussels and a much hyped speech for the balancing act is hazardous euro skeptics fear cameron won't go far enough with his demands he's gone too far already. reports.
8:19 am
when the prime minister first became leader of the conservative party he said the biggest problem was that they spent far too much of their time banging on about europe i see glad those days are over i. think countdowns as the prime minister prepares to deliver a landmark speech on europe but with warring factions in his aim policy growing euro skeptic sentiment in the u.k. and his increasingly unimpressed european counterparts to appease and the pressure is on is he's struggling right now on this issue up till now i think he has he hasn't given a clear message a clear standpoint on the e.u. and the u.k.'s relationship with it i think has been for a number of factors whether it be the world economy whether be the economy or whether it be his own backbenchers so widely expected that the prime minister will pledge a major european treaty with vision included in that would be
8:20 am
a clawing back powers to britain in key areas they need terms that british membership in the e.u. would then be put to the country's citizens in a referendum after the next general election he really painted himself into a corner where he's got to have a referendum after an election and he will try a skillful politician and. paper over the cracks to give a bit. to them and say that we now are looking for europe to make a response to our proper requests that it will be a very. confident speech until you actually analyze it and you see that he's asking for the e.u. to behave in a way that's not a hope in hell they will do that with this speech under such scrutiny maybe david coming to get some inspiration from the know the conservative leader he's relationship with the e.u. was often stretch. to try to suppress mission and concentrate power of the center

of a european congress would be hard. and would jeopardize the objectives to achieve in margaret thatcher's memorable speech she set herself against the european superstate exercising and need dominance from brussels yuri skeptics often forget is that margaret thatcher balance those warnings with a staunch defense forces play for the hearts. the truth is that these days and that speech will be a hard so growing and. sentiment it's uncertain whether he'll even be able to please those within his party rest of us. who can believe it because this is going on. for angry families all out in the open i mean. the tory party will say much riding on this speech he tries to please everyone david cameron the very real risk of pleasing no one to. say the time has

come for the big you are delayed so many times already it's been nicknamed the tomorrow and tomorrow. it's now expected you get some more sara. lunde and. when i do start to r.t. this friday we'll bring you our special coverage of david cameron's big speech on europe. for now watching cat videos on you tube while picking up a good salary and getting good performance reviews the impossible dream for the world's. apart from one enterprising american who secretly outsourced his day's work at multiple companies to china so he's gone h. to can report he almost got away with it. you may already know that outsourcing is very popular in american companies outsource manufacturing to places like china
8:23 am
they outsourced services including call centers to places like india american companies outsource jobs all the time but some americans took outsourcing to a whole new level by getting someone in china or elsewhere to work under their name and credentials one of america's largest broadband and telecommunications companies why is that most recently caught one software developer doing exactly that someone they refer to as bob paid a software consulting firm in china less than one fifth of his six figure salary to do his job bob gave them all the codes necessary to access a critical infrastructure company's internal system so while the chinese were ransacking the internal system of as critical infrastructure company in the u.s. bob devoted his work time to facebook reddit e-bay and cat videos seriously his browsing history revealed that's what filled bob's typical workday apparently bob had the same scam going across multiple companies earning several
8:24 am
hundred thousand dollars a year and only paying the chinese consulting firm about fifty thousand annually at one of the companies he reportedly received excellent performance reviews for the last several years in a row even being hailed the best software developer in the building it was a sweet deal for bob which is apparently not his real name until the rise and revealed the breach by accident when they received a request from a us company asking for help in understanding anomalistic tittie was witnessing in its private network and open an active connection from shane young china we here in the us constantly complain about chinese hackers but apparently with employees like bob who needs efforts. artie's guy next to canberra now israel has issued two hundred tenders for new housing in the west bank a settlement watchdog group has issued a report saying the government's deliberately using construction to undermine the creation of a palestinian state and many israeli settlers feel this isn't about giving them new homes anymore but every fact is wary about unpacking again he's already been forced

to move twice first from the israeli settlement of in the sinai peninsula and then twenty three years later from the settlement of gaza in a move television hoped would inspire peace both times his government had encouraged him to put down roots in the settlements and both times his government forced him out is a good argument that my government betrayed me it betrayed the people it sent to settle the land and build their lives there but it's a mistake a mistake that should be fixed. but first of all in the thousands of other former gaza settlers need to fix their lives a group of them live here in central israel in small temporary structures they built with the own money some of the laws the government didn't do what it was supposed to do and didn't rehabilitator swe have no roof over our heads. so when prime minister benjamin netanyahu announces the approval of thousands of new city
8:26 am
units the settler movement while police can't help but feel suspicious that they are merely being used as chess pieces in the government's political game. it's obvious to everyone that all of a sudden there is approval of big construction plans what does that mean that i'm supposed to vote for netanyahu or someone else i'd be happy rather to have a prime minister who will approve construction in any part of israel. tamera brain works for property development group in a neighborhood in east jerusalem that has passed the pre nine hundred sixty seven green line construction here is controversial but the waiting list of hopeful buyers is overflowing i think the government of little now realizes the most important for them now is to give the settlers what they want because the constituency of liquid part of the party is the far right and they're playing into their hands and unfortunately not in the hands of the general public interest
8:27 am
but could these new city units be bashed down in the future like what happened to the settlements in gaza and you meet yes there is the simple amount of uncertainty but you know when we created this country when we established. four years ago there was even a greater level of uncertainty but we are not cheap on the table we are thriving communities with fourth generation israelis that were born and we are here to stay and for as long as the governments on this side of the settlement abate they're staying at least for now but a showdown is inevitable israel says its settlements are an issue to be discussed during negotiations but palestinians say they won't hold peace talks while israel builds on land they want for a future state policy r.t. tel aviv. russia has warned currency world war is looming for the global economy
8:28 am
the concerns were sparked by japan's move to lower the value of the yen in pursuit of exports causing fears of a chain reaction as other nations do the same parties are going to spin off as the story. an economy not so far away actually the google economy is on the verge of a currency war let me paint a quick picture for you japan where the newly elected prime minister is pushing for a more aggressive central bank policy has been dropping the yen went down by eleven percent since december meanwhile in the european union experts say europe has fired the first shell e.u. financial authorities warn the rising euro is threatening the economy despite the debt and eurozone crisis austerity measures and so on the euro group by seven percent in the last six months so it is possible that you will start dropping it also now the united states has been printing bucks for the last five years to support the markets but that also makes the dollar cheaper washington has been looking over the shoulder at china which holds the majority of u.s.
8:29 am
foreign debt and b. jing is also accused of holding back its currency the reason why they do that is when a currency is dropped to the export becomes cheaper it makes the country more compact comparable but it isn't applauded by other countries which me retaliate by dropping very currencies so it's kind of like a domino effect but the last time a major currency war happened was during the great depression era in the one nine hundred thirty s. which resulted in a slowdown of international trade and all was part of the lead up to world war two but that's not all if the exports become cheaper the imports become more expensive so ordinary people buy less and when they travel abroad that's more expensive as the world so basically that kind of worsens. the quality of life so that leads to public disapproval unrest and so on so it's kind of like a domino effect like i said the dominoes are all there in place and that's why russia is worried about it currently cheers the g.
